From scholarships to mentorship programs, CCNMA has worked hard to help diversify our nation’s newsrooms in staffing and content by identifying and supporting promising journalism students.

But many of the gains we have made have been lost due to shrinking newsrooms caused by the poor economy. That has meant not only a drop in the number of Latino journalists, but also a drop in the financial support provided by media companies.

We hope to create an institute that would empower and encourage the next generation of Latino journalists; increase the number of Latino professional journalists and provide them with training, support, and professional development to advance their careers; train and educate all journalists on Latino issues; and train community members to become “citizen journalists” to report on their own communities.

But we need your help for CCNMA to continue its important work.
